Sort of a contest

???
I have a friend who's off doing something noble in a foreign land. Unfortunately some of the photos she's sending back of the trip beg for less-than-noble comments.

This is here for the rest of our friends to look at and hopefully (please) submit captions for the photo.

Begin now. I'd like to have it captioned and hanging in my work space for a short time before I...well, before I do whatever it is I'm going to do.

"Whoa! These ARE a lot bigger than the ones I'm used to seeing in Kansas!" Tue 12-Aug-2008 03:42

Inquiring Minds Want to Know!!!!

Horseshoes anyone?
Reverse tornado
Cat with dog toy. Dog unconcerned.

Are you blogging somewhere else, or just lost your enthusiasm here?

Neither. The little part-time job that went full time has turned into overtime (not legal overtime, just more hours than I wanted or bargained for) due to rapid, sustained, phenomenal company growth.

I barely seem to have any time to do the solitary things I enjoy. That's not to say I'm not having the occasional good time, I am. But the outside-of-work activities all involve pairs or groups of people. This is a good thing. It's been a rough couple of years. Death and illness have been constant companions and those are things that go better when the burden is shared. Thank god for friends and family. We've managed to have fun too; it hasn't been all darkness and despair.

Hopefully work's juggernaut of growth will level off, I'll get someone else trained in the tasks only I can do and then I envision being able to eke out a little more me-time to go with the other good times.

About the pictures:

The horseshoe pit at City Park. Yes, we've had a bit of rain.

Yes, we had a real tornado but it breaks my heart to look at the destruction. This is from the day before all hell broke loose in MHK.

Elmo, the cat that thinks he's a dog. Dallas will believe he's a dog as soon as he can lift that toy in his mouth.

Hope you are all well. I miss you.

Welcome back! Where does a reverse tornado land? Sun 15-Jun-2008 21:49

It's been a while since you've posted at exactly 11:11. Good to see you're back in the saddle, even if not on a regular basis. I will look forward to hearing/seeing from you again soon, my friend. Thu 19-Jun-2008 18:33

My Life on the Dry Erase Board

The big picture

View all 6 photos...
It hangs in the kitchen, this half note-pad half cork board creation. This is where the grocery reminders get listed; the good-bye you were sleeping notes get written; the travel check list gets posted; and, of course, the while you were gone this happened happenings are documented.

Someone in my house thinks the deer are cute and need dietary supplements or they will starve. I think the deer have been around longer than the people and are in no danger...of starvation. But Bambi just might get shot if he eats one more plant...

Are you blogging somewhere else, or just lost your enthusiasm here? I'm having a challenge to remain enthusiastic, since a lot of our friends left and took their playful banter with them. Got anything new to share? Been feeling artistic with your camera? What's going on?! I miss you. Fri 25-Apr-2008 17:07

fotopages...Now without Support!!!!

Hello, hello, hello. Is there anybody in there?
When searching for posts by an fp admin
Just nod if you can hear me. Is there anyone home?
I can't remember the last time I saw an actual post from an fp admin/support person that answered a question...

I can't remember the last time I saw an update on the issue of pay to play accounts...

I can't remember what it was like when fp was fun...

No wonder the Bratz attendance is so spotty.

Dear Juli, JP Harr and myself have been exchanging post on our FPs about the same subject. We both have not been able to post. I have written to Fotopage's support to no avail. There are many people like us that are willing to migrate to other places... What prevented us was the interchange between users here. However... Fri 18-Jan-2008 13:23

I think I'm gonna go through and archive all the stuff I have written over the years before somebody just pulls the plug on this place. Most of our friends have left already, taking the fun banter and some interesting friendships with them.
So, uh, check this place out. http://www.fotothing.com
Remember all the fun it was looking forward to coming to Fotopages every morning? Fotothing has that going for it, and without too much trouble, you should be able to find me.

But I have to say, Fotopages has, by far, the best layout and options. It's just so unfortunate that the management here has better things to do. They are driving a great place right into the dirt. There is only one feature that I feel is lacking here: hi-res viewing capability. Fri 18-Jan-2008 17:07

New for 2008

Yes, I am a deer friend of yours
To all my fotopages friends, a wish for a Happy New Year from your deer friend in Kansas.

Rear Window was awesome on the big screen. Grace Kelly is/was stunning. I've left messages for Wenzday and Thurzday but they seem on hiatus. How are you? Thu 17-Jan-2008 18:08

Santa's Little Lap-Sitter

Isn't that the most sinister Santa you've ever seen?
Oh JP, for someone who's never met me, you know me well.

Thanks for your answer! I laughed a lot... Mon 24-Dec-2007 19:27

RE your comments: Yeah, funny, but the monkey you saw recently is pink. Your youngest child must have had a massive dose of real life do him some good, eh? At least with your diligence and training, he managed his transformation with grace. He knew what to do. Thank you. We got blasted by an actual blizzard-y storm last night. It's really nice out now. White Christmas! A merry one to you and yours, Jules. Big hugs! Tue 25-Dec-2007 02:29

Why is it that Santa is always creepy looking?!
I stopped by here to wish you a warm and wonderful Christmas, but now I'm thinking of that perverted Santa at the mall when I was in high school. Eww. What a way to tarnish the season!

A Sad Day in Kansas

WTF?
And I must be a truly sick individual as I was laughing so hard egg nog shot out of my nose.

For those of you who can't read my atrocious photography, the text at the bottom of the television screen says:

Overland Park Station - Santa Claus visit postponed until Dec 16.

But originally the text read: Santa Claus visit cancelled. Period. He's not coming this year. At all.

Now half the parents in Northeast Kansas are calling the TV station screaming, "What the phuck are you thinking????" and the other half are pointing at the screen and telling their kids, "See, I told you this would happen if you weren't good boys and girls."

Seriously, Santa delayed by weather???? Jiminy Cricket, he lives at the North Pole!

You weren't worried??! I take you to be a Santa's lap-sitter. Mon 10-Dec-2007 19:32

Three Cheers for Tech Support!

Manufacturer's Troubleshooter
Of course three cheers. After all, it's what I do for a living, I just don't get to do it and travel like some others I know. Hey, been there, done that, kinda nice to know where I'm going to lay my head at night.

Anyway, sometimes even the tech support person has to call tech support. We had a laptop that was less than two months old that would not power on. Fortunately it's covered under warranty, but before I admit that none of our inhouse people can solve the problem, I must exhaust every avenue. So I went to the manufacturer's website and ran their troubleshooter for the issue.

As you can see, the problem was the laptop would not turn on. I completed all seven steps in the troubleshooter, none of them resolving the issue. I was a bit flummoxed on how to proceed at that point. If I am unable to get the unit to power on, how exactly am I supposed to Click on Start, Control Panel. Double click on Performance and Maintenance. Double click on System. At the bottom of the System Properties window, click on Support Information???

We did end up sending the unit in and the manufacturer did repair the unit. Why this happened in the first place is not clear. I will merely suggest to you that it is probably not a good idea to set your laptop down on the fluffy down comforter on top of your bed for any appreciable length of time. This could lead to overheating and overheating in a laptop, even if it's in bed, is not a good thing.

Lesson learned aye? Wed 17-Oct-2007 16:49

Great! Always struggle for your consumer rights. Well done! Besides that I learned one should be careful with what we take into our bed ! Thu 18-Oct-2007 11:11

I have to admit to overheating my laptop in bed a time or two. Turned the dang thing into a floppy! But it was repaired at no extra cost. Mon 22-Oct-2007 20:12
